Count by 10s: 10, 20, 30. Each jump is one whole ten.

  1. One ten at a time

    One rod is 10. Two rods are 20. Three rods are 30.

  2. Say the tens

    10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.

  3. See the pattern

    Every number ends in 0. The first digit goes up by one each time.

Two examples, worked out one step at a time.

  1. Count by 10s: 10, 20, 30, __

    Add one ten to 30. That is 40.

    Answer: 40
  2. Count by 10s: 70, 80, __

    Add one ten to 80. That is 90.
