  1. One hand is 5

    Hold up one hand. That is 5. Two hands make 10.

  2. Say the fives

    5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and on to 100.

  3. See the pattern

    Every number ends in 5 or 0. They take turns.

Two examples, worked out one step at a time.

  1. Count by 5s: 5, 10, 15, __

    Add 5 to 15. That is 20.

    Answer: 20
  2. Count by 5s: 30, 35, __

    Add 5 to 35. That is 40.

    Answer: 40
