Tens and ones to 50

In a two-digit number, the first digit says how many tens. Read it first.

  1. Tens first

    In 37, the 3 means 3 tens. That is 30.

  2. Then ones

    The 7 means 7 ones. 30 and 7 make 37.

  3. Zero ones

    In 40 there are 4 tens and 0 ones. No cubes.

  1. How many are shown?

    4 tens is 40. 2 ones is 2. 40 + 2 = 42.

    Answer: 42
  2. Build 28. How many tens and how many ones?

    The 2 is tens: 20. The 8 is ones. 20 + 8 = 28.

    Answer: 2 tens 8 ones
